What a time we are going through right now. When I set my 2020 business goals, they did not include a pandemic.

To be honest, this is hard. I am not completely certain about what the next month will look like for the self-employed. Currently, Jena Lee Photographs is still open and operating on a day-to-day basis as long as it’s safe to do so. I know that everyone is doing their best to flatten the curve. One thing that I have loved watching is how flexible our businesses are being while they keep everyone’s health a priority and do their best to continue serving our community. There are some truly creative solutions coming forth. That is so cool.

*Of course, the ultimate business is our local health care practitioners working behind the scenes to take care of everybody. The biggest love to them.

If you see your favourite local business put up a post saying they are closing their doors, find out if there is any way you can still purchase from them. If your favourite business is still operating, support them as normal.

When you have a business, you are constantly cycling through highs and lows. Most of the time it’s business as usual and it’s incredibly rewarding. We love being able to provide you with goodies, services, food, clothes and everything in between. Right now, it’s a bit scary though because by doing our part to isolate, that means closing our doors, delaying service, serving less people, or changing how we operate.

This is where you come in! If you’re in a position to help, you can be your favourite small business’s hero right now just by purchasing from them. This will look different for everyone, but it could be in the form of a gift card, take out, stocking up on your favourite item from them (within reason, I’m not suggesting hoarding items), or pre-purchasing a service for later in the year. Even the smallest thing makes a large difference for a small business and if you aren’t sure what would be best, just ask.

Right now at Jena Lee Photographs, it’s business as usual. Luckily, I can do most of my work from home and via video. I only work with a small number of families at a time, so there is pretty limited cross contact. Hand-washing and sanitizing are happening on a constant basis and I am keeping communication between myself and my clients open.

For me, I hope families and new parents still feel that they can continue booking their portraits! Right now, I am including a complimentary 12×12″ print for any family, baby or birth photography sessions as a thank you for your continued support.

We will get through this. I am taking care of myself and my clients and am so grateful for everyone who is taking the time to support small businesses and each other right now. It’s going to feel extra good to be there to photograph your special moments this year, I can’t wait.
