A helicopter family photo session in the Golden BC Rocky Mountains is what dreams are made of. At least, that is what I dream of as a family photographer.
This dream became reality earlier this Summer, when filmmaker Elora Braden and myself hopped in a helicopter with the Davies family one evening.
The plan was to take a short flight from the Golden BC airport up to the iconic Mt. 7 peak to create family photos at sunset.
This mission and the mountain views were a highlight of my summer.
Helicopter Family Photo Session in the Golden BC Rocky Mountains
Earlier this summer, Whitetooth Helicopters dropped, filmmaker Elora Braden, the Davies family, and myself on Beaverhead Peak in Golden BC. This peak is better known amongst locals as Mt. 7 for the iconic seven that appears in the snowmelt each spring. It is a special mountain here and I knew it would be perfect for a helicopter family photo session.
After a quick helicopter flight across the valley, we landed on top of Mt. 7 for our photo session. We all spent some time taking in the mountain views and the sunset. If you have ever been lucky enough to spend time here in Golden, you know what a beautiful place it is. We are lucky to live amongst the Rocky Mountains and the rivers here. As a family photographer, I am grateful to live and work here.
For me, this was a creative project that had been on my mind for a while. I have always wanted to photograph a family session in the alpine at sunset. However, there were some logistics that had to come together to make it happen. At first, we considered hiking up to the peak, but we felt unsure about hiking back down in the dark, especially with kids. That's when the helicopter family photo session idea was born.
