Is two weeks too old for newborn photos? Me, a newborn photographer, says definitely not. In fact there are even a few benefits to waiting a few weeks to do newborn photos. For some families, it’s better to wait two weeks to give yourself space to recover after birth. You also might want to get to know the baby first and potentially have a small routine figured out.
Birth can obviously be a bit intense, so it’s very reasonable to want a little rest afterward. If you ask me, your lifestyle newborn photos are going to beautiful no matter what. So if it’s right for you, it is definitely ok to give yourself a grace period before getting in front of the camera.
Indoor Newborn Photos at Two Weeks Old
Baby Matilda’s parents waited until she was a few weeks old to do her newborn photos. A lot of parents ask me if this is ok and tell them that it depends on what your goals are, but generally yes. If you really want photos of your baby when they are as small and as sleepy as possible, or if you want to incorporate some of their birth details in the photos, then a Fresh 48 session might be better suited for you. Also, a studio newborn photographer will probably request that you come in right away.
However, if you love lifestyle newborn photos and are ok with your baby being more awake and a little bit bigger, then two weeks is not too old. Your baby and your photo session are going to be cute and perfect no matter what, so choose whatever feels right for you.
Is Two Weeks Too Old For Newborn Photos? No way.
For some families, there are even a few benefits to waiting. Birth can be an intense event for everybody. Some parents know that they want photos right away so they can include birth details and meeting family. But lots of other families I photograph decide to wait a few weeks for their newborn photos.
