Backyard Mountain Wedding in Golden BC

Full disclosure, Marisa is my esthetician and I trust nobody else with my eyebrow wax and tint. She hands me a mirror after every appointment and I always laugh because I don’t need to look at them, I know they are perfect. She is an (eyebrow) artist.

Her now husband, Nevin, is also an artist (the paint kind). I got to know him more throughout our time together and can confirm that he is also a sweet, gentle, and kind soul.

I was absolutely delighted when they asked if I would be their wedding photographer. These two took their love for the mountains and a good party to put together one of the best backyard weddings ever.

The highlights:

The bubble boys, when I asked Nevin if it felt strange to say wife and he said no because she’s already been his wife for a long time, having their ceremony with friends and family, then reading their vows together in private later in the day, when the sunset hit the mountains and everyone paused to take in the glow, the many moving hands and acts of love that came together to create this beautiful day, Marisa’s sequin jumpsuit.

The Approach:

My approach to Marisa and Nevin’s wedding day was to document it as the events unfolded. Before the day, they shared that they loved candid moments, were excited to have their friends and family around, and that there would be some tender moments of missed loved ones. Ultimately, I wanted them to have a gallery that captured their quiet love for each other, the importance of their guests, and the stunning surrounding mountains.

As everyone gathered for this special mountain wedding, I kept a long lens on my camera so that I could photograph candid moments from afar. Sometimes, when guests see my camera pointing at them, they get a bit shy. For this reason, I use my long lens to document everyone’s interactions without putting them on the spot.

The Day:

Marisa and Nevin got married on a hot summer day in August. They met and continue to live in the mountains of Golden, BC. So it was only fitting that they get married there too. They kept their ceremony short and sweet, giving us a beautiful glimpse into their relationship. From there, I accompanied them to a separate location so they could read their vows to each other in private.

What stood out to me most about this day was how many close relationships they each had with their friends and family. Everyone there was deeply important to them. These special relationships created a fun, loving wedding day atmosphere. The best part about a wedding is bringing your loved ones together. Especially when you can be together in a beautiful mountain location, such as Golden BC. My vision for Marisa and Nevin’s wedding gallery was for it to be full of candid encounters, tender moments, and beautiful scenery.
