Family Photos in the Rocky Mountains
If you want the real truth, this session began with a full meltdown in the gondola. Something about their youngest wanting different shoes, and being real mad that they were back at home. And I’d be lying if I said this was the only family photography session that began that way… or ended that way.
In fact, more often than not, there is some form of tears during family photos. Usually from the kids, but sometimes from the adults, too. The latter usually being emotional, happy, love tears. But anyway, we didn’t have the correct shoes and had to start these family photos at Banff Sunshine Meadows with a cuddle and a cookie. And if you ask me, that’s a-ok, and pretty normal.
While it may take some extra planning and effort to get up there, family photos at Banff Sunshine Meadows are incredible. To get there, we drive, take the gondola, and then take another chairlift up to the wildflower meadows. Every time I work up there, there are different native blooms scattered across the landscape. But the view is always the same: incredible.
Family photos at Banff Sunshine Meadows are for the more adventurous. Being up there feels quiet, isolated, special. Which might also bring you to tears. Unfortunately, there are no cookies sold at the top, though.

Making our way to Banff Sunshine Village and riding up the gondola adds time to our photo session, but the views are worth it.
To protect the fragile vegetation, we must stay on designated trails. For this reason, photo sessions at Banff Sunshine Meadows are best suited for small families, maternity, or couples. This location is available during the Summer months, from June to August.
