A wedding photographer’s guide to

Calgary Wedding Venues

Locations for your wedding in Calgary

There are a few things that I think contribute to a really great wedding, two of the big ones being: a beautiful venue and a thoughtfully planned experience.

When I reflect on the weddings that photograph effortlessly and leave me feeling inspired, they prioritize spending time with each other and their guests. They intentionally plan the bones of the day, and then allow it to evolve as it will. This approach, along with a carefully selected wedding venue, lets the energy of the day grow without interruption and encourages getting swept up in genuine moments of celebration.

As for wedding photography, enjoying good company and a good time naturally creates endless, beautifully candid moments for me to photograph. The final gallery for these events are full of moments that actually happened and images that could never have been anticipated.

In this guide, I’ve made a list of wedding location options in Calgary that align with this vision. I chose venues that allow for easy transitions between events and support heartfelt interactions, all in a beautiful location. As a wedding photographer, I would be quite pleased to work at any of these locations and hope you find the same inspiration in them as I did.

What Makes A Great Calgary Wedding Venue

Beautiful Locations and An Uninterrupted Day

When I photograph a wedding, I focus on documenting interactions between you, your partner, and your guests. If that is further supported by a stunning location and beautiful architecture, then we have a dream scenario. My clients want a wedding photography experience that encourages presence over performance for the camera. The couples I work with plan their day carefully and often say they are most looking forward to spending time with friends and family.

The wedding venues that seem to support these goals the most are the ones that have a beautiful setting and allow for easy movement between rooms or areas. Having both of these brings several benefits:

  • Investing in a wedding venue that you find aesthetically pleasing reduces resources spent on decorations.
  • Staying on location for events and portraits reduces travel time and, therefore, stress.
  • Enjoying your event in one location gives it a private feeling and encourages unstructured downtime spent with your loved ones.
  • When people feel comfortable, they participate more wholeheartedly, leading to candid moments to photograph and memories that last a lifetime.

A Wedding Photographer’s Recommendation

Choosing the right Wedding Location in Calgary

Choosing a wedding venue shapes the continuity of your day and the overall guest experience. Some spaces naturally lend themselves to a slower, more connected kind of day. Others offer the ease of having everything in one place.

As you compare your options, keep your personal wedding day vision in mind. Notice how the different venues make you feel. Make sure there is space for everything you want to do. Visualize how your friends and family will convene.

From an artist who has been to a lot of weddings, the most important part of the day is always the people. Enjoy their company, prioritize your time with them, find a location and great vendors to take care of you, and you will surely have a beautiful day.
